This edition of STEAM Magazine features entomologist Edward F. Knipling who, along with his longtime colleague Raymond C. Bushland, are the originators of STI (Sterile Insect Technique). Sterilization effectively eradicated the screwworm from the United States, saving the livestock industry and estimated $900 million a year.

Typography and photography are from the era of the sterilization technique. The first page of the feature uses Knipling’s signature as the title. A large infographic lifestyle includes hand drawn illustrations to explain the lifecycle of the screwworm that Knipling and Bushland disrupted. Callouts emphasize the impact of the technique and awards Knipling won as a result.
